Dubai is taking another giant leap forward in its urban development journey. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially awarded a massive AED 2 billion contract for the development of the Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor.

This 12-kilometre strategic corridor is set to redefine traffic flow in the emirate, supporting economic growth and accommodating Dubai’s rapidly rising population. The most exciting news for daily commuters? Once completed, the project will cut travel times by more than half on key routes.

Here is everything you need to know about this mega-infrastructure project and how it will transform your daily commute.

What is the Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor Project?

The Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor is a new 12-kilometre arterial road project designed to bridge key transport corridors across Dubai. It will improve connectivity between the city’s major highways, including:

  • Al Khail Road
  • Dubai-Al Ain Road
  • Umm Suqeim Road
  • Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road

By creating a seamless link between these high-traffic arteries, the RTA aims to optimize traffic distribution, manage growing vehicle demand, and drastically reduce bottlenecks during peak hours.

Key Infrastructure Features

To achieve free-flowing, multi-level traffic movement, the RTA is executing an incredibly sophisticated engineering plan. The development includes:

  1. Eight Tunnels: Spanning a total of 900 meters to streamline underground transit.
  2. Seven Bridges: Stretching across 2.3 kilometers to elevate traffic over congested intersections.
  3. Four Lanes in Each Direction: Expanding Latifa Bint Hamdan Street to boost throughput.
  4. A New Connecting Road: Direct links between Al Khail Road and the extension of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street.
  5. Multi-Level Free-Flow Intersections: Minimizing stops and wait times.
  6. Sustainable Mobility Integration: Incorporating 12.5 kilometers of dedicated cycling tracks to encourage green transit and active lifestyles.

Who Benefits from the New Corridor?

The corridor is strategically positioned to serve several major residential and commercial hubs in Dubai.

  • Massive Reach: The project is expected to serve areas with a combined resident and visitor base of over 650,000 people.
  • Unprecedented Capacity: Once fully operational, the corridor will accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, managing approximately 130,000 daily trips.

Real Commute Time Savings

The highlight of the project is the dramatic reduction in travel times. For motorists traveling between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road, travel times will plunge from 33 minutes to just 15 minutes—a time savings of over 54%.

When Will It Be Ready?

Construction is already underway, and the RTA has scheduled the Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor for completion by the end of 2028.

This project aligns perfectly with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, ensuring that the city’s infrastructure stays ahead of its rapid population growth. By integrating multi-level intersections, expanded lanes, and pedestrian/cycling routes, Dubai is cementing its position as one of the world’s most connected and livable cities.
